Tywi Boat Club

The Tywi Boat Club is a Royal Yachting Association Certified sailing and water sports centre situated 6 miles south of the historical market and university town of Carmarthen.  It is halfway between Llangain and Llansteffan.

Llansteffan is a tidal estuary with one of the biggest rise and fall of tide in the British Isles. As a result strong currents can be present in the Tywi and means you need to take care especially on Spring tides.  There is some wonderful sailing to be had within the Three Rivers estuaries  –  Taf, Tywi & Gwendraeth.

The Tywi is navigable for small yachts practically all the way to Carmarthen town centre.  Laugharne is a popular destination while small dinghies or shallow draft motor boats can make it all the way to the ancient quay in Lower St Clears on the River Taf.  To the East the newly refurbished Kidwelly quay serves to remind us of a bygone age.

If you and your craft are capable, then given the weather you can venture further afield to destinations in Carmarthen Bay such as Saundersfoot, Tenby or Caldey Island. For the more experienced the club is ideally situated for longer voyages: eastward to the Severn Estuary; south to Somerset and Cornwall; and westward for Ireland. The Tywi is rich with possibilities.

The Tywi Boat Club caters for enthusiasts of all ages and abilities and visitors to the club are always very welcome to call in and look around.
